Chitosan is thought to open epithelial tight junctions allowing more efficient uptake of antigen, but may also complex to antigen through electrostactic interactions [15],[38],[39]. This complexing of antigen may restrict access to draining lymph nodes preferentially favouring Th2 type IgG1 dominated responses.
